Altair Continues Innovations in Prepaid and Contactless Payments
LONDON, 26 June 2008 (www.AllPayNews.com) : Altair Financial Services International Plc (Altair), global prepaid card and transaction processing solutions provider, announced it will team with CardPOS Europe/Laks and ID Data to offer the latest innovation in contactless payments, the UK’s first approved reloadable MasterCard® PayPass™ Watch capable of supporting offline transaction authorisations. The watches and packaging can be custom branded, and include a unique design for easy to use customer SIM card insertion/withdrawal. Altair exhibited the contactless payment device at Prepaid08 in London earlier this week.
According to Altair CEO, Lee Britton, “The MasterCard PayPass Watch gives customers a new and exciting way to pay, and offers merchants a new revenue opportunity, increased throughput and improved customer loyalty. Contactless can bring benefits to card issuers aiming to differentiate their products. The MasterCard PayPass Watches could change the way people buy as they will no longer need cash on hand and can spend less time waiting to pay for goods.”
Altair has been at the forefront of contactless prepaid cards since working with MasterCard to issue the first prepaid MasterCard PayPass cards in London last year. Altair was also involved in the introduction of limited edition MasterCard Prepaid PayPass cards at The BRIT Awards 2008 and Swarovski Fashion Rocks for the Prince's Trust 2007.
Earlier this year, Altair helped deliver the first stadium contactless prepaid card in Europe, the Manchester City FC MasterCard® Prepaid Seasoncard with PayPass, with MBNA and MasterCard.
The Manchester City FC MasterCard Prepaid Seasoncard is the first of the next generation entry control cards that combines for the first time three applications in a single piece of plastic. The card stores membership data and is capable of interfacing contactlessly to the Manchester City Stadium turnstiles to allow entry to home matches, it also supports standard Chip and PIN payments and contactless payments with MasterCard PayPass.
