Orbiscom Online Security Product Growth Far Outpaces Online Spending Growth

High use of Orbiscom's Controlled Payment Numbers demonstrates continued consumer concern about revealing card details while shopping online.

NEW YORK, April 10 (www.AllPayNews.com) -- Orbiscom has reported that consumer enrollment and usage of its patented Controlled Payment Number technology continues to grow at rates that far exceed that for online spending. This growth mirrors survey results from many in the financial services payments industry, illustrating that consumers have significant concern about revealing credit card details while shopping online and that this online security concern is a large inhibitor to maximizing growth in the e-commerce sector.

Growth in consumer online spending has risen approximately 24% annually in the past two years, exceeding $100 Billion in the US for 2006 from preliminary estimates. During this same period, Orbiscom has seen growth rates of 60%+ and 90%+ in cardmember spending using CPNs. This more than tripling of business over the 2004-2006 period comes from a combined look at results across the Company's clients which include three of the top five credit card issuers in the US.

Orbiscom's Controlled Payment Number (CPN) product permits cardholders to shop online or on the telephone without revealing their real credit or debit card details. A substitute card number, expiration date and security code is generated at the point of online checkout to protect real credit card details. And because the substitute card number is the one that resides in the online merchant's data base, the consumer's true card details are not exposed. In the six years that Orbiscom has been in the market, clients and their customers have never had an incident of fraud or misuse of credit card details when using the CPN product. Controlled Payment Numbers are offered for free in the US for credit cards under the various brand-names of Orbiscom clients: "VAN" (Virtual Account Numbers) at Citibank, "ShopSafe" at MBNA and Bank of America, and "Secure online account numbers" at Discover Card. PayPal has recently introduced a version of this product, marketed under the name "Virtual Debit Card". In Europe, CPN is offered to both debit and credit card customers.

Research studies conducted by several clients reveal that cardmembers are looking for a service like this (i.e. "I want this") and that once they use it, they really like it and use it consistently when shopping online (i.e., "It works!") This is important since fear of revealing personal credit and debit card details is the #1 inhibitor to shopping online.
