Turiss adds Former First Data CISO Phil Mellinger as Chief Technology Officer

RESTON, Va., July 23 (AllPayNews.com) -- Turiss, LLC, an industry leader in proactive cyber-fraud intelligence and anti-financial fraud software, announces that Phil Mellinger has joined the company in the role of Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Mellinger is credited with drafting the original payment card security guidelines (PCI DSS) and is a widely recognized leader in information security for the financial sector.

Mr. Mellinger served previously as the Chief Information Security Officer for First Data, a leading financial transaction processor. At First Data he was responsible for the company's overall information security posture and oversight of technical and security investigations. During his tenure he initiated the reconciliation of proposed guidelines from Visa and other payment card networks into a unified set of security standards that became the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Prior to joining First Data in 1996, Mr. Mellinger was the Chief Engineer of a multi-agency federal task force to enable citizens to securely interact with the U.S. government over the Internet. Earlier he served as the Chief NATO Crypto-Engineer at Brussels, Belgium, managed several government network security projects at MITRE, served as an Air Force Special Agent responsible for technical surveillance, and was a Systems Analyst at the National Security Agency.

"I am delighted to welcome Phil to our management team," stated Richard Kelsey, Turiss CEO. "He brings a unique understanding of the exposure faced by the financial sector as a result of the evolving threat of cyber-crime and the rise of new forms of crimeware. His track record in implementing security solutions, including crafting of the predecessor to the PCI DSS guideline itself, is impressive. Phil is the perfect person to guide market deployment and further development of our security solutions."

At Turiss, Mellinger will manage customer implementation and ongoing development for Turiss's newly released Tiberius Protector(TM) software product. The patent-pending product provides a simple, non-intrusive method to combat the theft of online credentials by nullifying crimeware attacks. Mellinger will also work with the Turiss civil intelligence team on providing additional threat analysis services to existing financial services clients, and he will assume leadership of Turiss's product development in the areas of point-of-sale and mobile-banking anti-crimeware solutions.

"I decided to join Turiss because their raw intelligence on crimeware and financial fraud was a real eye opener. They have an unparalleled insight to the threat, invaluable data on those involved in attacks against the financial industry, and real, proactive solutions for combating crimeware attacks that normally go undetected by anti-viral and firewall solutions."

Based in Reston Virginia, Turiss specializes in cyber-fraud investigations, incident response, and anti-crimeware software solutions. The Turiss team of industry experts includes former Secret Service cyber-crime special agents, former military intelligence agents, forensic experts, and IT security specialists.
